Sinocastel welcome the arrival of the Dragon Boat Festival,
which starts on Saturday, 31st May 2025 to 2nd June 2025. The festival commemorates Qu Yuan, a poet and exiled statesman from the ancient Chu kingdom during the Warring States Period (476BC – 221BC). Qu reminds people of the values of loyalty, courage, and cultural pride.
People across China and many other parts of Asia celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with vibrant traditions that honor history, health, and community spirit.
Here are four activities you can do over the extended weekend in Shenzhen city.
1. Go to dragon boat races
Districts of Shenzhen city hold dragon boat races independently at different sites, Nanshan district where Sinocastel is located has its race at Dashahe river gallery as usual, on Saturday 9:00am – 12:00am.
About 70 teams and 3,000 athletes are expected to take part in the races in Shenzhen where Sinocastel located.
2. Watch drone, light shows
As a famous high-tech city, Shenzhen is known for its impressive drone shows, in the festival drone show will light up the Shenzhen North Station square.
Light show at civic plaza Futian central area will be good thing to expect at 19:30pm, 20:30pm, and 21:30pm during May 30 to June 2 respectively.
3. Eat, shop, take selfies, explore
A string of outdoor activities will be available at all citizen squares, campus.
Events are also taking place on seaside park.
Many restaurants in the village offer freshly caught seafood, serving dishes including steamed lobster and fried cuttlefish.
Other attractions include fishing sampans, junk boats and houses on stilts.
4. Munch on rice dumplings
Sticky rice dumplings, or zongzi, are traditionally stuffed with a variety of fillings such as pork, beef and red bean paste.
But several local establishments have departed from the traditional fillings, coming up with their own take on the delicacy by using fillings such as abalone and red kidney beans. Whether buy from supermarket or make it with your family, Zongzi is a must try during this festival.
